SEEDS is having a great sale!

I just wanted to put it out there that SEEDS Family Worship is having a BIG birthday sale!  The CD’s are only $9.97 each and they are buy one get one free.  If you haven’t purchased them yet this is great time to do so.  Give the extra ones to friends or give them as birthday or Christmas presents.   They are wonderful!  They have DVD’s now as well.

We have been able to fill our home with God’s Word with the help of this ministry.  We have memorized together as a family and it has been such a blessing. We are singing it out loud and in our hearts all the time.

I’m attaching a video of Gracie saying Psalm 1 from a couple of months ago.  She had a cold and had just lost two teeth.  It was really cool for all of us to spend a couple of weeks talking about the meaning of each part of the Psalm and it brought new depths and meaning to the passage, even if she did say that sinners will not stand “in the conjugation of the righteous”.  LOL.  =)

So Important! A Foundation of Faith for Your Family!

My dear friend Karen was here last night and told me that I needed to listen to the podcast for the day on the Focus on the Family website about Building a Foundation of Faith for Your Family.  It reminded me of why I felt led to start this website in the first place.  It reminded me of why I became so passionate about sharing resources that can help families teach their children about God in the home.  Go listen!  It’s not that long. In it you will find:

  • why statistically half of children raised in a Christian home will leave the faith in college.
  • what you can do about this frightening statistic!
  • discussion about how important it is not just focus on behavior only (which can be the tendency for parents)
  • how to live your faith,  with your children!
  • how to discuss your faith,  with your children!
  • Grace!  Give it!  Apologize!
  • how having a relationship is how you have influence
  • the impact that dads and moms have on their kids

One tip given by the author of the book The Sticky Faith Guide for Your Family by Dr. Kara Powell is each day at dinner (or whenever you are all together) ask one another, adults and children, “How did you see God at work today?”  It is easy for children to grow up and not understand how God is real to them.  It’s easy for them to not understand their faith if they are not seeing it modeled in their own family.  I haven’t read the book so I don’t know if she specifically recommends having a family worship time but as I was listening I kept thinking about how a family worship time will create the perfect setting to do the things that were being recommended:  to teach, to discuss, to study God’s Word, to ask questions, to build relationships, to give grace, address REAL issues, and to live out your faith together as a family.

On discovergod.com for kids (http://www.dg4kids.com) the statement is made that “The most important thing to teach a child is who God really is.”  They have awesome week long lessons to help you teach your children who God is, the truth about who He is!  We all form an opinion about who God is.  Much of the time we are wrong.  Much of the time we try to make God who we want Him to be, who we “feel” like He is, or we make Him like an earthly father in our mind.

I just want to encourage you, as I’m being encouraged myself, to build a strong foundation based on the Truth of God’s Word in your family.   They will have a strong foundation if they know who God really is.  If they know who He really is, they will love Him.  If they love Him, their hearts will want to obey Him, because they will know just how much He truly loves them.

Ephesians 3:17-19 “…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
